Sculpture and Painting
Richard Artschwager (1923–2013) was an American artist whose work spanned sculpture, painting, and drawing, often blurring the boundaries between functional objects and fine art. Initially trained in science and later as a furniture maker, he began using industrial materials such as Formica and Celotex in the 1960s to create pieces that challenged viewers' perceptions of space and domesticity. Although his work is frequently associated with Pop Art, Minimalism, and Conceptualism, its unique character and intellectual depth defied simple categorization. He is particularly recognized for his signature "blp" motifs—stylized punctuation marks intended to draw attention to the surrounding environment.
