Born in a refugee camp in Pakistan to Afghan parents, Hangama Amiri spent her early years in Kabul before moving to Tajikistan in 1999 and immigrating to Canada in 2005. She received her MFA from Yale University in 2020. Her artistic practice focuses on large-scale textile installations that explore memories of home, geopolitical conflict, and the social norms affecting Afghan women.
