Michael Hersch is an American composer and pianist who is a professor of composition at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. He is widely recognized for his intense and uncompromising musical language that often explores themes of mortality and illness. Hersch has received numerous accolades, including the Guggenheim Fellowship and the 2024–25 Rome Prize (Elliott Carter Prize) in Musical Composition.
