Nona Faustine was a Brooklyn-born photographer and visual artist known for her evocative self-portraiture that confronted the hidden histories of slavery, colonialism, and racial identity in the American landscape. Her work, including the acclaimed 'White Shoes' series, is held in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum and the Carnegie Museum. She was a 2024–25 Rome Prize Fellow and passed away in March 2025.
