Sylvain Fusco (1903–1940) was a prominent figure in Art Brut. After a traumatic period of imprisonment and military service, he became mute and was interned in a psychiatric hospital in Lyon. He began creating art on asylum walls before transitioning to pastels, producing a celebrated body of work featuring opulent, enigmatic female figures.
