Michelangelo was a Florentine artist and one of the most famous figures in Western art. He primarily considered himself a sculptor, and his work focuses almost exclusively on the human body. The Louvre's Michelangelo gallery houses his famous sculptures known as the Slaves (including the Dying Slave).
