Wojciech Fangor was a central figure in Polish postwar abstract art and a pioneer of environment art. He is best known for his 'Positive Illusionary Space' paintings—pulsating, borderless abstract works that explored optical phenomena. He was the first Polish artist to have a solo exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum (1970).
