He is widely recognized for his wall sculptures that utilize discarded materials like cardboard and textiles to create intricate, abstract surfaces. His work frequently addresses social and political themes such as power, corruption, and marginalization. Mapondera represented Zimbabwe at the 59th Venice Biennale in 2022.
