Pieter Engels (1938–2019) was a pioneer of Dutch conceptual art. Often adopting an entrepreneurial persona, he founded organizations like the 'Engels Products Organization' (EPO) to create ironic works that punctured the seriousness of the art world and questioned the economic value of art.
