Naoya Hatakeyama explores the relationship between nature and human intervention. He is particularly recognized for his series on limestone quarries ('Lime Works') and explosions ('Blast'), as well as his documentation of the reconstruction of his hometown after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake.
