Sonia Gomes is a Brazilian contemporary artist who employs found objects and textiles to create knotty, sculptural forms. Her work is deeply rooted in Afro-Brazilian traditions and the history of the textile industry in her home state of Minas Gerais. She has represented the Vatican at the Venice Biennale and is widely recognized for her intuitive use of hand-worked materials.
