Judit Reigl escaped Soviet-occupied Hungary in 1950 and settled in Paris, where she was initially involved with the Surrealist group led by André Breton. She eventually developed an individual style of gestural abstraction, often using found tools and her own body to mark the canvas. Her work is held in major collections including MoMA and the Guggenheim.
