A seminal figure in the Korean Dansaekhwa movement, Cho Yong-Ik studied at Seoul National University and became a leading abstract painter. His work is characterized by repetitive physical actions and a minimal color palette, often incorporating organic patterns like bamboo and waves. He represented Korea at the Paris Biennale in 1961 and 1969.
