Robert Wallace Martin was the eldest of the four Martin Brothers who founded the Martin Brothers Pottery, famous for producing 'Martinware'. Their work is characterized by salt-glazed stoneware, particularly their distinctive 'Wally Birds' (grotesque owl-like jars) and face jugs. Kingston Museum holds a significant collection of 120 Martinware ceramics, which are considered a major highlight of the museum's permanent studio pottery display.
