Born in Beijing, Zhang Shuo graduated from the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts and studied for her MFA at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Her work integrates traditional Chinese silk painting with themes from Western classical tragedy and Renaissance drama, exploring the tension between translucency and perception through a unique 'suspended mounting' technique.
