Thania Petersen is a Cape Town-based artist whose work interrogates colonial histories and the construction of identity in post-apartheid South Africa. Drawing on her Indonesian 'Malay' heritage and Sufi Islamic traditions, she uses self-portraiture and theatrical personas to reclaim historical narratives and explore the spiritual and cultural resilience of her community.
