DESCRIPTION

Yuki Kihara is an interdisciplinary artist of Japanese and Sāmoan descent whose practice challenges dominant historical narratives and socio-political norms. Her research-driven work explores themes of decolonisation, ecology, and gender identity, often through the lens of the fa'afafine (Sāmoan third gender) community. In 2022, she became the first Pasifika and transgender artist to represent Aotearoa New Zealand at the Venice Biennale with her exhibition 'Paradise Camp'.
