Billy Apple (born Barrie Bates) was a seminal figure in the British and American Pop Art movements and a pioneer of Conceptual Art. After studying at the Royal College of Art in London, he rebranded himself as a trademarked brand in 1962. His work often explored consumer culture and the economics of the art world.
