DESCRIPTION

Tatsuzo Shimaoka was a Japanese potter designated as a Living National Treasure in 1996. A student of Shoji Hamada, he is best known for his 'Jomon-zogan' (rope inlay) technique, which combined cord-impressed patterns with white slip inlay. He was a central figure in the Mashiko pottery community.
