Raimund Girke was a decisive pioneer of analytical painting, famously dedicated to the investigation of the color white. His work reduced pictorial language to fundamental elements, exploring the richness and movement of light through layered monochromatic surfaces. He was a long-time professor at the Berlin University of the Arts and was an influential figure in post-war German art.
