Digital painting, video, animation
Masaharu Sato (1973–2019) studied oil painting at Tokyo University of Fine Arts before moving to digital techniques at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Working with a digital pen, he traced photographs and then erased the original data — placing everyday scenes at a surreal, dreamlike threshold. His video series 'Avatar' was shown at the Mori Art Museum and he received a special award at the Taro Okamoto Museum of Art.
